What purpose does your assessment tool serve? ICDL, the International Computer Driving License, is the world’s leading program providing individuals with basic computer skills training and validation/certification testing. Similar to validating one’s competence to operate an automobile through a testing and licensing process, ICDL awards a certificate or “license” that proves one’s competence at operating a personal computer based on current standards.

How long has this assessment tool been in use within your organization? The worldwide program was created by the ECDL Foundation in Dublin, Ireland and has been in existence since 1997.
• Over 5 million people in 140+ countries are ICDL candidates.
• 15 million tests have been administered to date.
Who is the audience for this assessment tool? 8th grade through Higher Education students, and teachers and staff at every level.
What technology is used?
ICDL tests are administered online via the Internet and have the following requirements
• PC running Microsoft Windows98 or higher
• Connection to the Internet (broadband connection recommended)
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher
• Macromedia Authorware Plug-In
