What purpose does your assessment tool serve? The PLP is designed to help a learner be the center of a conversation about their learning, document their learning goals against standards, and create artifacts of their work as it develops.  Advisors and peers advise and help the learner reflect on their knowledge and skills, set goals, and produce high quality work. The PLP is a work space as well as an electronic portfolio.

Who is the audience for this assessment tool? Any educational program that wants to use an online coaching and e-portfolio toolkit: K-12, higher education teacher licensing, school inservice programs, new teacher mentoring programs, regional school system support programs

Hardware: It is web-based so all that is needed is a browser and Internet access.

What professional development (for students or assessors) is required to use the tool? Training in how to use the tool and strategies for using it to scaffold learning and portfolio assessment.

 

To use the tool effectively, what else should the school have in place? Mentors to discuss the learners goals and progress.

 

If you haven't already addressed it, how does your tool help students or teachers demonstrate that they are meeting standards? The PLP links to state standards so that the learner can include the standards as part of their portfolio and objectives.  They are available as reference.

 

What are your next steps in developing or implementing this tool? Working with more sites, enhancing the survey capability, and building learning communities to share best practices.
