What purpose does your assessment tool serve? |
The Integration of Technology Observation Instrument ITOI© is a classroom observation instrument. The observation items in this instrument are aligned with NETS-T and NETS-S and are limited to observable behaviors. To collect the data, the observer checks the presence of various attributes of technology integration observed during three-minute intervals of a class. The ITOI© is included in “NETS for Teachers: Resources for Assessment.” |

Please indicate the category that best describes your project: |

How long has this assessment tool been in use within your organization? |
ITOI© was developed at Arizona State University West. It has been in use for three years by educational institutions. |
Who is the audience for this assessment tool? |
There are two audiences: a) university faculty and the preservice and inservice teachers who are their students, and b) K-12 principals and curriculum and/or technology specialists who are responsible for classroom observations of teachers. There are two versions of ITOI© : Higher Education for classroom observations of faculty and K-12 for classroom observations of K-12 teachers. |
What technology is used? (Please indicate hardware, software, and networking requirements) |
ITOI© is an integration of technology classroom observation instrument. Currently, it is a hard-copy format. Future formats may include a PDA version. |
Approximately how many people are currently using this system? |
What professional development (for students or assessors) is required to use the tool? |
ITOI© is a classroom observation instrument. Observers need training using the instrument and analyzing the data. |
To use the tool effectively, what else should the school have in place? |
To use ITOI© effectively, observers should be trained in classroom observation techniques, have an in-depth knowledge of NETS-S and NETS-T , and be familiar with all of the technology being used in the classrooms to be observed. |
If you haven't already addressed it, how does your tool help students or teachers demonstrate that they are meeting standards? |
ITOI© documents the integration of technology by university faculty, K-12 teachers, preservice teachers, and K-12 students. The analysis of the classroom observation data reports on the NETS observed in each classroom. |
